Social-emotional well-being

The FCSD Comprehensive Guidance Plan, has been updated as of July 31, 2020 with collaboration from School Counselors, School Psychologists, School Social Workers and with support from a consultant trained in this area. The plan will include all new requirements from the NYSED and will be posted to the district website and ParentSquare platform.

The FCSD has developed and implemented a multi-tiered system of support (MTTS) to address the academic and social emotional needs of all students. Referrals for services are managed through interdisciplinary teams at the building level across all three tiers. Services and interventions are delivered through district programming and outside community agency referrals. The district has a licensed Office of Mental Health Clinic in two of the 8 school buildings to assist in providing efficient access to psychological services.

An advisory council has been established, but was unable to meet at the scheduled time due to the school closure as a result of COVID-19. The FCSD advisory council consists of School Administrators, School Counselors, a Board of Education member, community stakeholders, teachers, students and parents. The purpose of the advisory council will be to review and inform the comprehensive developmental school counseling program plan.

FCSD stakeholders will collaborate to identify the needs and resources for professional learning opportunities for staff and administrators on how to conduct conversations with and support students during and after the COVID-10 public health emergency. Such opportunities may include a combination of in-person sessions, email communication with resources, online opportunities from FCSD and/or outside providers, and professional collaborative circles.
